Much more than Sunday service

At FCCW, we’re proud to offer a wide range of programs for all ages and interests. You’ll find what you’re looking for, whether it’s an active youth group, spiritual outings, or family activities.

Sunday School

Our Sunday school classes are offered for preschoolers through sixth grade. Your child will learn about the Bible and explore what it means to be a Christian through class activities and imaginary play. Sunday school classes run concurrently with worship from September through May. You can drop off your child at 9:45am before service starts at 10am.

Nursery Care

We provide care during Sunday worship for infants and toddlers. You can drop off your child at 9:45am before service starts at 10am.

Children’s Choir

Your child will rehearse songs and play simple instruments with other Sunday school kids. The children’s choir performs during Sunday worship once a month and also during special services: Christmas Pageant, Palm Sunday processional and Church Music Sunday.

Kids Club

This is an after-school program where elementary age children come together to play games, make crafts and engage in simple service projects — all in a fun and supportive setting.

Confirmation

Confirmation is the time when 7th and 8th graders prepare to affirm their baptismal vows as members of the congregation. Our two-year program leads them through a review of Bible, church history and theology of the United Church of Christ.

Youth Group

Youth group is our gathering of 9th-12th graders. We share our weekly highs and lows, talk about faith and friendships and support each other. Our youth also meet to serve dinner at Hilda’s Place shelter, go on retreats, and plan and lead our annual mission trip in South Carolina.

Chancel Choir

Lend your voice to Sunday service. Directed by Kurt Mockenhaupt, our chancel choir sings a variety of music from classic to contemporary. Rehearsals are weekly from September to May and new members are always welcome. No experience necessary.

Handbell Choir

Bring your musical talents to our handbell choir. This group brings joyful music to worship once a month, September through May. Rehearsals take place weekly. Members must be able to read music.

Interfaith Dialogue

As a congregation that learns across faiths and generations, we regularly partner in interfaith dialogue with other houses of worship including Congregation Sukkat Shalom of Wilmette and the Muslim Community Center of Morton Grove.

Contemplative Prayer

Restore clarity and focus to your life through contemplative prayer. Rooted in Christian history, contemplative prayer combines guided meditation and silent prayer.

Book Group

Want to broaden your reading? Join our book group. Each month, members congregate to discuss a new book. The topics are varied and selected by the group.

Mary Suppers

Get together with other women to share a delicious meal with Bible study led by Pastor Stephanie VanSlyke. The conversation is always animated, enlightening, and fun. Mary Suppers take place monthly in someone’s home.

Men’s Group

Enjoy an evening out for dinner and conversation led by Rev. Dr. David Hogue. The Men’s Group meets regularly at Hackney’s Restaurant, 1514 E. Lake Avenue in Glenview.

Retreats

During the year we have periodic men’s and women’s retreats for exploring our faith beyond our church walls.

Yoga

Our very own yogini, Trish Nealon, leads several restorative yoga classes at the church throughout the year.

Family Activities

You and your children will have opportunities to spend time with other families outside of church through periodic retreats, picnics and outings.

Positive Parenting

Create more harmony in your family life. Our very own Beth Miller, PCI Certified Parent Coach, offers classes to help FCCW families navigate the daily challenges of parenting.

Intergenerational Night

Get to know people young and old during Intergenerational Night. Once a month, this special program brings together all generations to share a meal, work on a service project, explore our shared faith and grow relationships with each other.
